From another branch up on the tree the building across the street looked different. He could see a couple shadows moving around in the living room that he couldn't see before. He thought about the lives that were happening in there, and wondered if they were better or worse than his own. He had another reason for looking, but it wasn't anything that he was aware of. He was 11 years old at this time. There were 2 kids who lived in the house, and he wasn't sure if either parent worked. They seemed like good people, but they were dirty. He thought to himself that something like that shouldn't matter when it comes to people, but he couldn't stop thinking it. He also thought that the girl who lived there was cute, but he couldn't think that all the way. The way he thought of himself was too ugly to believe that anyone that cute could feel the same way about him, and he was aware enough to know that lots of people felt like that and that made him feel worse. He wondered what school she went to. Then he thought about nuclear war and him being blinded and blistered and walking around the rubble with nowhere to go.

A long time later he was on the train, and he was thinking about when he was 11 years old and how exciting girls were. All the end of the world possibilities were now just dull aches and he thought that it might be nice to have one of them happen. Just to make things and people real again.

The earlier releases were all strong, but I love the bit of "crunch" added to the guitars on this one. I would never have described their music as great to listen to while driving on a sunny day... until this one arrived. Excellent album. Matthew Campbell
